Honoring Catechists on Catechetical Sunday – September 21
Each year, the Church sets aside a special Sunday to recognize and bless those who serve as catechists—men and women who hand on the faith through teaching, witness, and example. On Catechetical Sunday, celebrated this year on September 21 in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, we pause to acknowledge the essential role catechists play in the life of our parishes, schools, and families.
Catechists are more than just teachers; they are evangelizers who help form hearts and minds in the love of Christ. Whether leading religious education classes, preparing children for sacraments, or walking with adults in OCIA, catechists serve as a vital link between the Church and those seeking to grow in faith.
The 2025 theme, “Come to Me, All You Who Labor and Are Burdened” (Mt 11:28), invites all of us—catechists and learners alike—to find rest and renewal in Christ. On this day, parishes across the Archdiocese will offer a special blessing to catechists during Mass, asking the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them in their ministry.
We are grateful for their dedication, and we pray that more will answer the call to share the Good News. Catechists truly help build the Church—one soul at a time.
