Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession is June 2
In a few weeks, we will be celebrating the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, or the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus. Corpus Christi is reserved as a preeminent celebration of the real Presence of Our Lord, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, in the Holy Eucharist.
On Sunday, June 2, we will participate in a Corpus Christi procession In Latin, “Corpus Christi” means simply, “Body of Christ” and is another way of saying the “Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ.”
The Corpus Christi procession has a long history that spans morethan 700 years. We started the tradition in our faith community a little more recently — eight years ago. A question that is sometimes asked is what is the reason behind this, and other public processions?
When the Eucharist is carried through the street in a solemn procession with prayers and singing, we give public witness of faith and devotion toward the sacrament. I ask you to prayerfully consider joining us at St. Anthony after 10:30 am Mass.
We will process down Appleton Avenue to Main Street to St. Mary. Bus transportation back to St. Anthony will be available after the procession. For those who are physically unable to process, I invite you to join us for whatever portion you are able, or adore along the route.
St. Anthony & St. Mary Parishioners are invited to participate in the the procession in a variety of ways, including as canopy bearers and flower petal bearers.
