St. Vincent de Paul: Ministry of the Month
Serving Those in Need: How St. Vincent de Paul Supports Our Community
In every community, there are individuals and families quietly facing difficult circumstances—struggling to make ends meet, keep a roof over their heads, or cover basic necessities. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) exists to meet these neighbors in their moments of need with compassion, dignity, and practical support.
Meeting Urgent Needs with Compassion
Much of the assistance provided by SVDP falls into two main categories: housing assistance and other essential needs. Housing assistance is, by far, the most common and urgent request.

When neighbors reach out, it is usually during a moment of crisis—when utilities shut off or eviction notice is imminent or resource options are limited. SVDP is often one of the only organizations able to step in with direct and timely rent or financial assistance, making this ministry a critical lifeline.
Support Beyond Rent
Volunteers also work to connect individuals with additional resources in the community, such as the Menomonee Falls Food Pantry or programs like FoodShare and ADRC. In person visits allow conversations on budget management, employment advice, stress management and most importantly encouragement in facing difficult situations.
This holistic approach ensures that support is not just immediate, but also helps individuals move toward greater security and support within their communities.
A Growing Need
The demand for assistance continues to be significant. In the past fiscal year alone, SVDP helped 110 households in our community. This graph shows the break-down of needs served, with housing (rent) assistance representing the largest portion of support.
Powered by Generosity
The work of SVDP is made possible through the generosity of our parishioners. One especially impactful source of support is the Giving Tree, where donated gift cards—such as those for groceries, gas, and household essentials—directly help families meet everyday needs. In addition, financial donations through the Poor Boxes located in each parish allow support with the financial needs of are an important source that helps those in need.
A Quiet but Powerful Mission
Putting faith into action, at the heart of Vincentian service are the qualities of gentleness, humility, and genuine compassion to the needs of those they serve. Offering hope, transformation and restoration for a more just and compassionate society.
