Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception to be Observed Dec. 9
Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception to be Observed December 9
December 8 is the Second Sunday of Advent, so the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is transferred to Monday, December 9. This should be observed as a Holy Day of Obligation.
Previously, when the date was transferred, the obligation was abrogated. This is no longer true.
In October the Holy See clarified about the obligation to attend Mass when a holy day of obligation in Advent, Lent or Easter falls on Sunday and the Solemnity is transferred to Monday, stating “The feast must be observed as a day of obligation on the day to which it is transferred.” In our parishes, Masses for the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated on Monday, December 9. There is no vigil Mass.
Parish offices will be closed.
